RESERVE—Sheriff Mike Tregre, an East St. John High School Alumnus, had the pleasure of speaking to the Literary/Film Club at East St. John High in Reserve last week.
Sheriff Tregre talked about a variety of topics ranging from his school days as an ESJ Wildcat to his first job in law enforcement in 1988 when he joined the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, working in the jail.
He also talked about setting goals and planning for life. He spoke to the students about life choices, and he told them they always have a choice. While family, teachers, and friends may be there to offer love, advice, and support, Sheriff Tregre told the group they are the ones who are in control of their lives. And, they can do whatever they want as long as they make the right choices.
He encouraged them to develop good keyboarding skills since many jobs require proficiency with word processing software and urged them to learn a second language to enhance their career opportunities.
Career opportunities with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office also were discussed. Sheriff Tregre talked about the new state of the art Lloyd B. Johnson Training Center where continuing education for officers is priority.
Schools interested in scheduling a field trip to the LBJ Training Center may call the center at 985-359-8968.
