2023 Lenten Fish Fry Program – The Knights of Columbus Ascension of Court Lord Council 9623 will be preparing and serving their famous fried or grilled fish filets!  Adult plates are $13, consisting of two large fish filets, Cajun boiled corn and potatoes. Child plates are $10 and consist of one large fish filet, Cajun boiled corn and potatoes. The fish plates will be served weekly from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Phone orders will be accepted on the days we cook, by calling 504-388-2452.  The fish fry is located at 1809 Greenwood Drive, across from the Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in LaPlace, under the “BIG KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS TENT!” All major credit cards, debit cards, checks and cash are accepted! Proceeds will help support the Reverend Benjamin Piovan Scholarship Program. Future dates are  March 17, March 24 and  March 31

 

St. Joan of Arc Fish Fry Dinners – Every Friday during lent from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the KC Hall located at 346 Fir Street behind St. Joan of Arc. Options available include $11 Fish Plate with corn, fries, hushpuppies and dessert. $8 Seafood Kickers, $5 Cheese Sticks, $13 Shrimp or Combo with corn, fries, hushpuppies and dessert. Also available is the $20 Mega Platter that comes with fish, shrimp, corn, fries, cheese sticks, seafood kickers, hushpuppies and desert.

 

St. Hubert’s Catholic Church is serving Fried Fish Dinners during Lent.

Every Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 until March 31. Dinners are $10 for one piece plus sides or $12 for two pieces plus sides. Meals include fried fish, mac and cheese, vegetable and cake. Meals are available for dine in or take out and will be served in the Parish Hall located at 176 Anthony F. Monica Street in Garyville.

 

St. Peter Catholic School is offering Lenten Suppers.

Every Friday through March 31. Meals are available from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and are drive-thru only. Pre order by calling the school office at 985-536-4296 or text orders to Jane Clement at 985-210-1143. Meals are $13 each and are different each week. St. Peter is located at 188 W 7th Street in Reserve.

 

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America is available in St. James Parish. Games are open play for all adults and skill levels on Mondays from 5 -8 p.m. at the St James Parish Recreation Building located at 1735 Deroche Circle in Gramercy. A $2 donation per evening to play. Paddles and balls are available, however personal equipment is welcome. Pickleball combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It’s easy to learn, is played as doubles or singles, and is fun for adults of all ages.

 

The SJA Parish Fair is March 24, 25, and 26.

 

In partnership with the LSU Ag Center and the Louisiana Master Gardeners, Destrehan Plantation will hold its 1st annual Spring Garden Festival on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26. Located at 13034 River Road in Destrehan, Louisiana gates are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission for a full day is $5 per person and children five and under are free.

 

High school seniors from St. John the Baptist Parish are invited to apply for the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship.   The LSA will award scholarships providing assistance to worthy Louisiana students in furthering their education and training with resources made available through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program. Applicants must attend a Louisiana school.

Applications MUST ONLY be submitted to the sheriff of the parish of applicants’ residence and are ONLY accepted from February 1 through April 1 of each year.

April 13—The 2023 River Region Chamber of Commerce Annual Fundraiser Golf Tournament April 13 at Cypress Lakes CC located at 10 Villere Drive in Destrehan, Louisiana. Tee time is 9 a.m. For more information call 9854-359-9777 or visit riverregionchamber.org.

 

April 15—The Fourth Annual Aviation Awareness Day in St. John the Baptist Parish takes place on April 15, 2023, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Port of South Louisiana, Executive Regional Airport, 355 Airport Road, Reserve, Louisiana, 70084.

 

St. Hubert’s Ladies Alter Society in Garyville is holding a crawfish raffle. The winner will have the choice of a sack of live or boiled crawfish or $100. The cost of each ticket is $1. The drawing is April 16 and the winner does not need to be present. For more information call 985-535-3312.

 

Citizens Academy Registration Underway

It’s time to register for the 2023-5 St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy. The Academy will be held April 19 through June 21, 2023 from 5:45 to 9 p.m. at the Lloyd B. Johnson Law Enforcement Training Center on Cambridge Drive in LaPlace.

Citizens who live or work in St. John Parish are invited to attend to see first-hand how the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office operates to protect and serve the community.

April 21—Rudolph G. Dinvaut Athletic Foundation 17th Annual Golf Tournament. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and Tee Time is at 11 a.m. at Riverlands Country Club located at 500 Fairway Dr in LaPlace. Benefits West St. John High School Scholarships and the Rudolph G. Dinvaut Stadium.

 

April 22 -The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office will present its annual kids fishing camp Saturday, April 22, from 8 am. to 2 p.m. at the Bonnet Carre Spillway boat lauch in Norco. Children ages 8-15 may attend the free program.  Rods, reels and bait will be provided or families may bring their own gear and tackle. Lunch will be provided.
