LAPLACE — The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office will present a firearms familiarization class for women on Wednesday, February 1, 15 and 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lloyd B. Johnson Law Enforcement Training Center, 947 Cambridge Drive, in LaPlace.

Each session will cover basic fundamentals of marksmanship, safe handgun handling, and allow participants to fire a semi-auto handgun. No outside firearms or ammunition are permitted for the sessions.

The cost is $40. Registration is first come, first serve; there is no waiting list. As more dates become available, they will be shared on the St. John Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. To register or for more information, visit
