Vinton – On September 15, 2022, shortly after 12:45 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D was notified of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10, about 3 miles east of the Toomey / Starks exit in Calcasieu Parish. The crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Kami Angelle Manuel of Carlyss.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Manuel, was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of travel on I-10. At the same time, the driver of a 2015 Ram pickup truck was traveling east on I-10. The Chevrolet continued traveling west and struck the Ram pickup truck head-on.
Manuel was properly restrained, but sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ram pickup truck, who was properly restrained, sustained serious injuries and was transported to area hospital for treatment. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
Troop D has investigated 17 fatal crashes resulting in 19 deaths in 2022.
