LAPLACE — Real estate closings opened a new door for Angelle Songy, a longtime real estate professional in the River Parishes area.
September 1 marks Songy’s six-year anniversary with Choice Title, a full-service closing company that also offers title search, title insurance and notarial services.
After more than 30 years working in real estate, Songy felt like she was shaken out of auto pilot mode when she received a phone call from Choice Title founder Sheila Bonnette on August 26, 2016.
Bonnette asked Songy if she would be willing to come work for her. They had been friends for 25 years, but the offer was so unexpected that Songy’s first reaction was to laugh, assuming it was a joke. Soon after, she realized Bonnette was serious.
“Sheila, I’ve never done anything else in my life except sell real estate. I don’t know what to do,” Songy said.
Bonnette responded, “Yeah, you do, because it’s all about serving people and helping people. You know how to do that. That’s what I want you to do for me.”
Songy accepted the job that same night, not knowing any details about the pay or what all it would entail. She knew in her heart it was something she needed to do. As she stepped into her new position, she found opportunities to be a problem solver and find solutions for the clients who placed their trust within her.
“It was refreshing to me to be able to take on a new challenge and to be able to expand,” Songy said.
Even after attorneys review closing documents, Songy and the team at Choice Title utilize two more rounds of verification to ensure all information is accurate and avoid future legal issues. Songy also educates her clients on how even small, unpaid debts from decades ago can spiral into a larger problem and show up against an individual’s property.
Songy proudly wears a pineapple symbol on her company shirts to symbolize a commitment to hospitality throughout the real estate closing process.
She works closely with real estate professionals in St. John Parish, including Elaine Burns of Regions Mortgage and Ched Edler of Latter & Blum and the Edler Group, who are both members of the LaPlace Branch of Business 2 Business.
