Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement agents cited a subject for alleged commercial fishing violations on March 14 in St. Charles Parish.

Agents cited Dong Liang Wu, 59, of Harvey, for taking commercial fish or bait without a commercial fishing license, taking commercial fish without a commercial gear license, and using illegal length/mesh nets in freshwater.

Agents received a complaint about subjects in a white truck who set out a fishing net in the Bonnet Carre Spillway.  The agents arrived on scene and observed a white truck being operated by Wu.

During the interview, agents noticed several fishing nets in the bed of Wu’s truck.  Agents then located two fishing nets in the water being fished by Wu.  Wu picked up the nets and they contained multiple catfish, garfish and hybrid striped bass.

Agents then discovered that Wu did not possess the required license to fish nets and the mesh size on the nets was smaller than legally required.

Using illegal length/mesh nets in freshwater carries a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.  Taking commercial fish or bait without a commercial fishing license and taking commercial fish without a commercial gear license brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail for each offense.
