LAPLACE — Roy, a retired K9 officer with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, passed away and was laid to rest on November 28.
Roy, a German shepherd, served the department for nine years before retiring earlier this year. After his retirement, he lived with his handler, Major Monty Adams and his family.
Roy was purchased by the SJSO in 2011 from USK9 Unlimited. He was trained in narcotics detection and was Major Adams’ partner from 2013 to 2021. Previously, Roy was the partner of the late Deputy Jeremy Triche.
Through the years, Major Adams and Roy worked many cases with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Roy will be missed by Major Adams and his family as well as the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office.
