29th Judicial District Court for St. Charles Parish opens October 1

The 29th Judicial District Court for St. Charles Parish will reopen on Friday, October 1, 2021, following a one-month emergency closure period due to Hurricane Ida. Damage to the St. Charles Parish Courthouse has required temporary relocation of the 29th Judicial District Court from Hahnville, Louisiana. Judicial officer chambers, staff offices, and hearing rooms have been established at One American Place, Second Floor, 13919 River Road, Luling, Louisiana. A temporary courtroom has been established at 13899 River Road, Luling, Louisiana.
On October 1, 2021, at 8:30 a.m., the St. Charles Parish Clerk of Court will resume full operations during regular business hours at the St. Charles Parish Courthouse, 15045 River Road, Hahnville, Louisiana. Pursuant to Emergency Closure Orders issued by the 29th Judicial District Court, all filings due between August 30, 2021 and September 30, 2021 shall be considered timely if filed no later than October 1, 2021. Parties unable to meet this deadline due to Hurricane Ida or Tropical Storm Nicholas may submit motions for extension of time supported by appropriate documentation and argument on or after October 1, 2021. Additionally, by Order of the Louisiana Supreme Court, all time periods, limitations, and delays pertaining to the initiation, continuation, prosecution, defense, appeal, and post-conviction relief of any prosecution of any state or municipal criminal, juvenile, wildlife, or traffic matter within St. Charles Parish is suspended for a period of 30 days commencing from September 30, 2021.
Court staff have worked diligently in transitioning to temporary facilities and reopen Court following Hurricane Ida. In the coming weeks, the 29th Judicial District Court will be issuing rescheduling notices to those having cases postponed between August 30, 2021 and September 30, 2021.
