Destrehan Plantation holds 3rd annual Local’s Day

DESTREHAN — Destrehan Plantation will hold its 3rd Annual Local’s Day from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19. With a driver’s license, Louisiana residents will gain entrance to the grounds for free.
Tours of the historic house will be offered at a discounted rate of $12 for adults and $7 for children, 7 to 17 years of age. Children ages 6 and under are free, as are Louisiana first responders (EMTs, Paramedics, Firefighters and Police Officers) who show their badge/ID card.
Visitors who spend $30 or more in the Destrehan Plantation gift shop will receive complimentary mimosas (maximum three). Demonstrations for Local’s Day include Candle Dipping, Indigo Dying, The Mosquito that Changed the World, The Wash House, The Rost Home Colony Exhibit, Gumbo Making, and Interactive Music Demonstration.
This year’s event is pet friendly. However, your pet must be on a leash, and only service dogs are allowed on the tour.
Southern Traditions food truck will be on site selling gourmet snowballs, lemonade shake ups, jambalaya, and crawfish, pulled pork, and/or plain nachos.
Show some love and adopt a shelter dog! The St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter will have an on-site adoption event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
