Several days a week, I have coffee with a few friends. Last week, as we were discussing things that happened in the past, Tim Ryan said, “When we choose to live in the past, we give our backs to the future.” I’ve used that statement a few times since Tim shared it with our group. It amazes me that the majority of people, as they get older, seem to enjoy being in bondage to what happened instead of being excited about what God has for them in the future.

At my age (soon to be 87), I have a long history of the past. However, I choose to look to the future with a positive attitude, regardless of how short in might be, because my God is a positive God. I intend to speak a positive confession. In Proverbs 18:21, God’s Word says: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. ” That means you can talk yourself to death or talk yourself to life. “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength. ” Philippians 4:13.

One of the great findings of modern, medical science is that the words we speak don’t just affect others, they affect us, too. Actually;they affect us even more! Words are powerful!

My goal is to finish my earthly life strong and to be a witness to my family knowing I’ll spend eternity in Heaven.
