LAPLACE – Louisiana Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the Ronald E. Thomas (R.E.T.) Memorial Scholarship opportunity beginning March 1. The annual program, now in its 31st year, awards $2,000 to five graduating high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership and altruism in the community.
“We are proud to support our young members on their educational journeys,” said Rhonda Hotard, president and CEO at Louisiana FCU. “The R.E.T. Memorial Scholarship serves as a small way for us to help reduce financial pressures for local students and their families, so they can focus on life first.”
Louisiana FCU expanded the program in 2020 to provide more opportunities to its growing membership. 2020 scholarship recipient Juliette LeRay said the scholarship helped to broaden opportunities during her freshman year at LSU.
“The scholarship has made it financially easier for me to be a student,” said LeRay. “It has gotten me one step closer to my dream of becoming a pediatric physical therapist and assisting children with special needs in the future. I am so grateful for Louisiana Federal Credit Union for helping me to thrive in my college years.”
The deadline to apply for the 2021 R.E.T. Memorial Scholarship is Sunday, April 18. Eligible students are encouraged to submit a short essay on how they have grown as a leader during the formative years of high school. Recipients will be announced on May 3.
