LAPLACE — St. Charles Catholic High School has always honored the excellence of their students by nominating the most outstanding Comets for recognition as Students of the Year. After a series of interviews, essays and portfolios, SCC is proud to announce Hartley Faucheux, eighth grade, and Dominic Joseph, 12th grade, as their Students of the Year.

In addition to their nominations as SCC’s representatives, eighth grader Hartley Faucheux was nominated to represent the Archdiocese of New Orleans and continue to compete at the state level for the Student of the Year title. Announcements for this level of achievement are expected in early March.

As the various nomination committees learned by reviewing their portfolios, these two Comets are truly outstanding, both exemplifying leadership, service, scholarship and spiritual growth—the pillars of Catholic education and of St. Charles Catholic’s mission statement.

Hartley, SCC’s eighth grade Student of the Year, is the daughter of Leslie and Steven Faucheux of LaPlace. Hartley was previously nominated as Student of the Year as a fifth grader at St. Joan of Arc, where she graduated as the valedictorian in 2020. While there, she served as the Beta Club president and as the Student Council secretary.

Since becoming a Comet, Faucheux has become a state and metro qualifier for the swim team, joined the volleyball team, student council and Stagehands drama club, and made the honor roll. She’s also remained very active in the community, performing with the River Parish Community Theatre and reading as a lector at her church parish, St. Joan of Arc. She seeks spiritual growth through SJA’s Youth Group, The Ascent, and through SCC’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also seeks to share her faith with others via a special YouTube Channel that chronicles her discoveries of the spiritual life.

Dominic Joseph is the son of Todd and Cherie Joseph of LaPlace. Joseph attended Ascension of Our Lord before attending SCC, where he currently serves as Student Body President and secretary of the Stagehands drama club. He’s also served as the Junior Class President, Sophomore Class President and Freshman representative on the Student Council. Joseph participates in many extracurriculars at SCC, including the Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, French Club and SCC Student Ambassadors. He’s also an accomplished athlete and performer, qualifying for the State swim meet multiple years and earning featured roles in High School Musical and The Addams Family. Joseph’s academic achievements abound, including his state qualifications in the South Central Louisiana Literary Rally for English, his many Honor Roll appearances, and most recently, his appointment to SCC’s 30+ Club for students who earn a composite score of 30 or higher on the ACT.

Dominic consistently goes above and beyond in every venture and has maintained a 4.0 in the most rigorous curriculum SCC offers. St. Charles is proud to have such a determined and well-rounded student represent them.

SCC takes pride in their students and loves to celebrate their achievements. It’s an honor and a privilege to educate the leaders of tomorrow in the halls of SCC.
