RESERVE — Monetary donations are still being collected for a local family with three small children that recently lost belongings in a house fire.
Donations can be mailed to 168 Hickory Street in Reserve. A neighbor stated that the community has already shown an outpouring of support with plenty of clothing donations for the family.
St. John Parish Fire Rescue was dispatched to 134 Hickory Street in Reserve at 6:42p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 for a structure fire. Units arrived on scene four minutes later and found a single-family dwelling with flames coming out of the rear and north side of the structure. Crews quickly got the fire under control and stopped it from spreading. The fire was contained to the structure of origin with no injuries being reported.
An occupant discovered the fire after hearing a popping sound at the back of the residence. After seeing fire under the home and in the back wall, the occupant quickly evacuated everyone else in the household.
The damage to the home was determined to be extensive with heavy flame and smoke damage.
