We all get excited when God allows us to enjoy some of the victories in our life. As we reflect on some of those, we think of them as life’s finest hours, but the opposite is often true.
As a Christian, adversity is always an opportunity to test our faith, not an obstacle to hinder our spiritual walk. It forces us to surrender to God’s will for our lives as He proves His faithfulness in our failures. “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. ” (II Peter 3-18).
As we grow in His will for our lives, we can better understand God’s purpose as adversity gets our attention. It humbles us and reminds us of our weakness that we must depend on Him for strength.
Part of the Christian life is experiencing adversity which will help us confront others going through their trials. It also gets us ready to serve as God expresses His love toward us as we change direction in our lives. I’m reminded of Romans 8:28 — “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. ”
God’s goal for us as we go through adversity is to remind us that it’s not our will, but His will, as He is maturing us spiritually. We are forced to rest in His faithfulness to depend on Him and realize that as we go through adversity, we always come out stronger.
