LAPLACE — Two students were awarded the Catholic Youth Leadership Award on June 18 at the St. Charles Catholic High School graduation.

Hailey Hilbun and Gregory Bergeron received the award from the Knights of Columbus Ascension of Our Lord Council 9623.

High school seniors and parishioners submit applications to the council. The winners are selected at the Knights of Columbus Council level and are then submitted to the Diocesan level. Winners at the Diocesan level are submitted to the state level.

Hilbun is a curious and courageous leader who finds purpose in community service. She participated in SCC’s Beta Club and assisted with a Special Olympics Christmas event. She volunteers for Meal on Wheels, helps out at the St. John Animal Shelter and volunteers as a counselor for vacation Bible School camps in St. John Parish.

Bergeron has made the all-academic composite team for boy’s soccer, demonstrating a strong commitment to academics and athletics. Bergeron was a member of the ACT 30+ Club, a Top 10 Honor graduate, and one of six Class of 2020 valedictorians at St. Charles Catholic. He was a member of several campus organizations.

High school seniors were not the only 2020 graduates to receive recognition from the Knights of Columbus.

Father Benjamin Piovan Memorial Scholarship Awards were presented at the Ascension of Our Lord School Seventh Grade Promotion Ceremony on May 27. This scholarship, sponsored by the Ascension of Our Lord Council 9623, is presented annually to two seventh graders that will be attending eighth grade at St. Charles Catholic High School.
