LAPLACE — St. John Parish experienced a rare weather event Thursday night that overwhelmed pump systems across the Region. Catastrophic rainfall occurred in a very short period of time and caused significant flooding not only in St. John Parish but in the River Parishes and Northshore.

Thursday night, more than eight inches of rain fell in some areas within hours, with isolated higher amounts.

Public Works and Utilities crews were out checking drainage and utilities systems as well as unclogging and cleaning catch basins and drains.

Residents are asked to assist with these on going efforts by removing debris and leaves from catch basins and storm drains near their homes. Please avoid placing debris in ditches, drainage canals, and on the side of the road that may impede drainage or become projectiles.
