Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Hurricane Preparedness Week was last week but it is not too late to make preparations. As we head into the start of natural disaster season amidst a pandemic, it’s that much more critical to be prepared!

With a shortage of food and necessities and social distancing measures in place, here are some supplies that we recommend having on hand (not hoard) should a disaster strike. If not already in your home, we recommend ordering these items via Instacart or Amazon to avoid crowded stores and spreading COVID-19. Home supplies can be delivered or picked up curbside at many stores.

  • Bottled water and non-perishable food (at minimum a three-day supply)
  • Flashlights (including extra batteries)
  • Battery-powered radio (with backup batteries)
  • First aid kit and medications (seven-day supply) and any other necessary medical items
  • Sanitation and personal hygiene items
  • Insect repellent and sunscreen
  • Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
  • List of emergency contacts and printed recent photos of your family members, including pets
  • Mobile phones with chargers (and backup chargers)
  • Emergency blanket
  • Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)
  • Pet necessities (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)
  • Tools for securing your home
  • Extra clothing and shoes (including rain boots and poncho)
