RESERVE — The 2020 graduating class will walk across the stage and celebrate 12 years of hard work, whether that momentous occasion takes place in mid-July or during Christmas Break in December.

Social distancing isn’t stopping the Wildcats senior class from making memories that will last a lifetime.

East St. John teacher Angelisha Wells shared the following information on East St. John’s Senior Week events.

“Monday through Friday events will be held via online platforms where presenters or hosts dress in formal attire,” Wells said. “The plan is to execute the week’s events in the form of a live broadcast event show each day.”

Prom voting for King and Queen will take place via an online ballot from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 10. A voting link will be sent to all juniors and seniors. During this time, students can also submit a “Don’t Rush” video changing into their cap and gown to Mr. Derron Cook on Instagram @motionphics1 or by texting 912-604-6348.

Monday, May 11 is Senior Breakfast. Students can pick-up a pre-packaged breakfast from the school between 9 and 9:30 a.m. before joining Principal Christopher Mayes and guest speakers for a Zoom meeting at 11 a.m. Teachers of seniors are welcome to join in.

Tuesday, May 12 is Kindergarten Day. Students are asked to submit photos from kindergarten or photos of themselves dressed as kindergarteners. “Guess Who?” games to identify the students from their younger pictures will be hosted through Kahoot, and winners will receive a prize. Game codes will be provided.

Wednesday, May 13 is Academic Signing Day. From 10 a.m. to noon, students will line up in cars near the ESJ Stadium and take turns signing the academic signing board with Coach Brandon Brown and Senior Counselor LaTia Brown. Students should wear their selected college attire or school colors, and a collage of pictures will be made available to students.

Senior athletes and students who received academic scholarships will be recognized via Zoom, according to communications specialist Jennifer Boquet.

The East St. John Stadium will light up Wednesday night in honor of the Class of 2020. The event will begin at 8:20 p.m. (20:20 in military time) and last for 20 minutes. Students and families are asked to drive up to the field and remain in their cars.

On Thursday, May 14, juniors and seniors will celebrate their virtual prom, “Diamonds and Precautions” (originally Diamonds and Pearls). DJ “Doodie” will broadcast a live concert via DJ Doodie’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Students can send in song requests, shout-outs and post their own live videos. The live feed will begin at 7 p.m., and prom voting winners will be announced before the end of the night. Winners can pick up awards in person.

“We ask that students get dressed up in their prom dresses and submit video or photos to be posted!” Wells said.

Friday, May 15, will be Club and Activity Awards Day. Awards will be announced live via Zoom, and students can pick them up from the school beginning at 3 p.m.

Students will receive pathway cords, stoles for the Wildcats Top 10, club awards and other accolades. Staff members who have graduate gifts will place them into pre-named bags to be issued to students during a final drive thru for the week.

As a special shout-out for seniors, ESJH staff will distribute yard signs to students’ homes on Friday. The school will also put out signs with photos of graduates along Airline Highway in front of the school.
