Tuesday update: COVID-19 death toll for Louisiana over 2,000

LAPLACE — There were 782 of reported COVID-19 cases  and 75 deaths in St. John the Baptist Parish on Tuesday, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. There was 777 reported cases of COVID-19 and 71 deaths in St. John the Baptist Parish on Monday. 

St. Charles Parish has 589 reported cases and 41 deaths, while St. James has 254 reported cases and 20 deaths. 

Statewide, there are 29,996 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across all 64 parishes. This marks an increase of 323 cases since yesterday’s report. 

There have been 2042 deaths statewide, which is an increase of 51 since Monday’s report. The first death in the state was reported on March 14. 

According to the Louisiana Department of Health, there are 1,512 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state. Of these patients, 194 are on ventilators. 

The state is now reporting that 20,316 people who have tested positive are presumed to have recovered as of May 2.

Governor John Bel Edwards has extended his Stay at Home order for Louisiana residents through May 15.
