LAPLACE — L’OBSERVATEUR has served the local community since 1913, making it one of the longest existing businesses in LaPlace.

Over the years, we have gone through a lot of changes. Through it all, we have remained consistent with our original mission to keep the citizens of St. John Parish and the surrounding communities informed and up-to-date with news and information that affects them.

As Louisiana and the nation navigate this difficult time in our history, businesses big and small face the daunting task of providing essential services to the public while also dealing with revenue reductions.

Just like other businesses in our community, L’OBSERVATEUR is also dealing with the challenge of navigating through difficult periods. We must remain profitable so we can continue to be a part of the River Parishes in the future.

The current situation has caused us to take a hard look at our operation, and consider ways to help us make it through these tough times. As such, we have made the decision to reduce one publication day from our weekly print schedule.

We decided to remove Saturday because it was the least profitable day and has been declining for some time. The recent economic downturn worsened that decline.

Starting May 2, we will cease printing of the Saturday edition, but we will continue to publish it online along with the printed Wednesday paper.

Even though we will not have a printed Saturday edition, we will continue to update our website at lobservateur.com with up-to-date news Saturday morning. As always, breaking news will be posted to our website at any time of the day or week as we learn of those situations.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to continuing to be your community news resource.
