Margaret “Peggy” Mary Haney Farinelli passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020 at the age of 79. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of LaPlace, LA.
Beloved wife of David W. Farinelli. Loving mother of Brandon Farinelli (Stephanie), Fran Nunamaker (Thomas) and Carissima Edwards (Timothy). Daughter of the late Bessie Haney and Jacob Haney, Jr. Sister of Kathleen Armand and the late Georganne Naquin, Jacob Haney, III, Dorothy Haney, and Mary Lynn Haney. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Peggy was a graduate of Ursuline Academy class of 1958 and attended LSU. She graduated from Dominican College with a Bachelors in Education. She was a Dominican Nun for seven years where she taught grade school. After leaving the convent, she got married and continued to teach for 31 years. She spent the remainder of her years as a homemaker. Since 2012, Peg has been in residence at Our Lady of Wisdom following a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s.
Peggy was a true witness for Christ spending her entire life teaching and sharing her faith in the Lord. Her devotion to Adoration, Chaplet of Mercy and Scripture were constant. When confronted with a problem, her response would be to offer it up as a sacrifice for our savior and encourage her family to pray about whatever issue. She began saying the rosary before Masses at St Peter Catholic Church and also helped the hard of hearing by signing the mass.
Her family will remember her love for singing, dancing and Miller Lite in a frosty mug. She loved ice cream, Russell Stovers, which she saved for a “hard moment”, and always made sure she had a drink and fries for her trip to the city. She was an avid seamstress and a self taught painter. She loved crafting and made an amazing praline. But more than anything else in life, she loved her family and her husband of 52 years. She will be greatly missed.
As a result of present circumstances the funeral service will be held at a later date. Our community of friends are important to us.
