Our good friend John Ira Young passed away on Friday the 13^th, March 13, 2020, at the age of 77, after losing a long battle with a bad heart condition.

The loss of John’s heartwarming smile and kindness will quickly be noticed by the residents of LaPlace and the surrounding communities that he served through SOS Washer & Dryer Service for the last 35 years.

John was born to Wilson and Edith Young on June 26, 1943 in Southeastern Pennsylvania, and grew up on a farm near West Chester, Penn.

John came to New Orleans in February 1972, and worked briefly in the automobile repair business until starting Southern Air Sports Inc.. John logged over 5,000 hours in fixed wing and ultra-light aircraft, and was an instructor to almost 1,000 students. In the late ‘80s John took over Skeeter out Screens (SOS) and grew it into the washer/dryer repair business that it is today.

John was an avid youtuber, guitar player, author and computer programmer. John ran his own IRC site, SOS Friends, for over 30 years. Please look for his guitar videos on youtube, and some of his articles on www.prelube.com .

John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 27 years, Karline. John said she was his everything.

John is survived in Louisiana by his 3 step-grandchildren Amy, Robin, and Brett Waguespack. In Pennsylvania, John is survived by his son Adam, daughter-in-law Nichole, grandson Christopher and granddaughter Samantha.
