WALLACE — Four friends from Wallace had a vision to bring a full-fledged sports bar to the West Bank from the time they were in high school. Years later, that dream has come to fruition with the opening of Legend’s Sports Bar & Grill.

Located at 5877 Highway 18 in Vacherie, Legend’s is situated near the St. John the Baptist/ St. James Parish line. Owners Alfred Smith Jr., Renaldo Trench, Shawn Trench and Oscar Zeno hosted a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Feb. 21 with St. John Parish President Jaclyn Hotard.

Legend’s Sports Bar & Grill offers a warm and inviting atmosphere to customers ages 30 and older.

The inside of Legend’s Sports Bar & Grill is spacious and inviting, offering ample table seating and a lounge area. Ladies and gentlemen must be 30 or older to enter, and Smith said this rule is strictly enforced with ID checks at the door.

Legend’s has a zero tolerance policy for fighting, and smoking and loitering are not permitted.

“We wanted to have it be more for the older people,” Smith said. “So far, it’s been pretty quiet and laid back. We have gotten some positive feedback. Everybody really likes the building and how it’s going so far. People tell us that if we can keep it up the way we have it, we’ll be very successful.”

Legend’s Sports Bar & Grill will feature boiled seafood on Mondays. The business is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but opens back up for steak night on Thursdays. Weekday hours are generally 3 to 10 p.m.

Legend’s stays open closer to midnight on the weekends. According to Smith, weekend food selections will include fish, shrimp, chicken and hamburgers.

Smith knows it will take a lot of dedication and teamwork among the four owners to operate a successful business. Above all, he is proud that Legend’s has become a reality.

He remembers the special moments shared traveling around Louisiana and frequenting sports bars with friends.

“When we were growing up, we always has a vision of opening a sports bar in our hometown of Wallace,” Smith said. “Maybe six or seven months ago, a building came up for sale, and we bought the building and remodeled it. It’s the very first sports bar that our area has ever had.”
