RA, WSJ suffer 1st round playoff defeat

NEW IBERIA — No. 12 seed Riverside Academy suffered a 71-31 loss to No. 5 seed Highland Baptist Thursday night in New Iberia, ending the season in round one of the Division IV girls basketball playoffs.

The Highland Baptist Lady Bears are 26-4 for the season. They recently earned the district co-championship title and received the highest playoff seed in the history of the girls basketball program.

The No. 17 West St. John Lady Rams also ended the season Thursday night with a 54-37 loss to No. 16 seed Plain Dealing. The Plain Dealing Lady Lions will advance to the regional round to face No. 1 seed North Central.
