Motorcyclist Killed in East St. Charles Parish Crash

East St. Charles – Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 10 westbound near Interstate 310 southbound which occurred shortly after 7:30 pm last night.

The preliminary investigation revealed the deceased was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 near Interstate 310 southbound on a 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcyclist struck the left side of the bridge, causing the rider to be ejected. The motorcyclist is suspected to have not been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased. Impairment is unknown at this time and toxicology reports are pending. This crash remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time. Identification of the deceased is pending notification of the next of kin.

Motorcycle helmets are required by Louisiana law for all riders. The helmet will provide protection for the brain and decrease the chances of traumatic brain injury.
