Morris Lagrande arrested for armed robbery

LAPLACE — Morris Joseph Lagrande, 27, of LaPlace was arrested after allegedly robbing a convenience store in LaPlace, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.

At about 4:30 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery with a firearm at a convenience store on U.S. 51. Upon arrival, deputies learned a male suspect wearing a mask, later identified as Lagrande, entered the store, implied he had a gun, and robbed the cashier of an undisclosed amount of money. Deputies were told the suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle toward Cambridge subdivision.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Through investigation, detectives developed Lagrande as the suspect. Detectives apprehended Lagrande at his place of employment after a search warrant was conducted on his residence where the mask used during the robbery was located. No weapon was recovered. During an interview with detectives, Lagrande confessed to committing the robbery.

Lagrande was booked with armed robbery with a firearm (felony). At time of publication, he was being held in custody in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
