VACHERIEShortly before 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 18 at Abadie Street. The crash took the life of 28-year-old Ramon Domino of Vacherie.

The preliminary investigation revealed 27-year-old Keimone Mitchell was traveling south on LA 18 in a 2008 Hummer H3. Domino was traveling north on LA 18 in a 2011 Nissan Altima. For reasons still under investigation, Mitchell crossed the centerline and struck Domino’s vehicle head-on. Domino was not wearing his seat belt and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. Mitchell was also unrestrained and suffered serious injuries. He was transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans by Acadian Ambulance Service. Impairment is unknown on the part of both drivers and toxicology reports are pending.

Troopers want to remind motorists of the importance of making safe driving decisions behind the wheel. Distractions, impairment, and fatigued driving continue to be factors in preventable crashes. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night.
