PORT GIBSON, Miss. – It’s approximately 165 miles from St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace to Port Gibson High School in Mississippi. Coach Frank Monica had to schedule the long road trip to fill a hole in the schedule for Week 6. The trip was worth it as the Comets returned with a 28 – 0 road victory over the Port Gibson Blue Waves.

The St. Charles defense was stingy and opportunistic as they came up with four turnovers in the game. St. Charles scored first on a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Zack Vicknair a few plays after Samuel Joyce gathered up a fumble at midfield.  In the second quarter, Kaiden Jones scored on an 11-yard run for the 14-0 lead at halftime.

The Comets struck again in the third quarter when Philip Tran scored a touchdown on a 17-yard run to extend the lead 21-0. On the ensuing kickoff the Blue waves would fumble, and the ball was recovered by Mandel Eugene on the 12-yard line. On the next play, Vicknair turned in the final score for the 28-0 win.

St. Charles found success with the running game throughout the game. Phillip Tran rushed for 98 yards. Keenan Gauff rushed for 76 yards, and Vicknair added another 80 yards rushing. The Comets finished the game with 284 yards rushing for the night.

The Comets will travel to Franklinton next week for another Thursday night game.
