CONVENT — A St. James Parish Grand Jury returned a true bill of indictment this month on 27-year-old Quannae Clark of Gramercy for first degree murder in connection with the February shooting death of 22-year-old Destin Smith, also of Gramercy.
Deputies with the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a Lutcher apartment complex Feb. 11 in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they located Smith suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his body.
He was taken to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Prosecutors said detectives identified Quannae Clark as a suspect.
Clark was subsequently arrested and booked into the St. James Parish Detention Center.
Clark, who has been out on bond since April 10, turned himself in to authorities last week.
Upon being booked on the first degree murder charge, Clark was ordered incarcerated without bond.
Clark entered a plea of not guilty.
Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, of 23rd Judicial D.A. Ricky L. Babin’s office, is the lead prosecutor on this case.
