Police chase follows LaPlace vehicle burglaries

LAPLACE — A local man was arrested last week, linked to numerous vehicle burglaries in LaPlace.
Malik Bowser, 21, of LaPlace, was arrested Jan. 8 after burglarizing vehicles in a parking lot of an apartment complex in LaPlace.
Deputies responded to Rue Dubourg at about 3:20 a.m. in reference to an unknown male entering vehicles in the complex’s parking lot.
Upon arrival, officers located a man, later identified as Bowser, exiting a vehicle then fleeing on foot towards the Carrollwood subdivision.
After a foot pursuit through several residents’ yards in the neighborhood, deputies detained Bowser near Rue Dubourg.
During booking, the St. John the Sheriff’s Office reported Bowser attempted to lie to officers by providing false names and addresses.
Bowser was booked with two counts of simple burglary – motor vehicle and resisting an officer by flight (misdemeanor).
He also was arrested on warrants for contempt of court.
He is being held in custody in lieu of a $34,339 bond.
