Keller: God used Billy Loupe to plant seed

Allen “Billy” Loupe and I were in high school together. After I graduated, I enlisted in the Navy and later found out that Billy had also joined the Navy.
I remember Billy as a mischievous young man in school and one who enjoyed having a so-called good time on weekends.
It wasn’t until years later, while I was working at the bank in Reserve, that Billy showed up.
He was married, had four children and was working offshore.
In the course of our conversation, it was evident that he had matured, still had a great personality and a good sense of humor.
He told me that he was a Christian and active in a local church. He then shared his born-again experience with me.
It happened while he served aboard a ship. He described how a shipmate came in drunk late one night. There was a Bible on his bunk and he picked it up, cursed and threw it in a garbage can.
The next morning, Billy, who had never read the Bible, knew it didn’t belong in the garbage. He took it out and began reading God’s Word. From then on, he was a changed man.
This proves that the Bible is a life-changing book.
Before we finished our conversation, he asked if I had a relationship with Jesus. I didn’t answer. I knew Jesus, but didn’t have a personal relationship with Him.
It wasn’t until six years later while attending church on the second Sunday in October of 1980, that I answered the altar call and asked Jesus to be the Lord of my life.
Billy died a few years ago.
I thank God that He used him to plant a seed in my life.
