Children can eat free in St. John Parish

LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish’s participation in the Summer Food Service Program began this week, providing free breakfasts and lunches for all children who want one.

The state of Louisiana defines children as all youth who are school aged.

Meals are provided to all children without charge, with five serving locations spread out across St. John the Baptist Parish.

East St. John High School is serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at 100 Airline Highway in Reserve. There will be no service on July 4, and the service will end July 20.

Emily C. Watkins Elementary School is serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at 938 Louisiana 628 in LaPlace. There will be no service July 4, and the service ends July 20.

Lake Pontchartrain Elementary School is serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at 3328 U.S. 51 in LaPlace. There will be no service July 4, and the service ends July 20.

The New Wine Christian Center Fellowship Kitchen is serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1931 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace. There will be no service July 4, and the service ends July 27.

West St. John Elementary School is serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at 2555 River Road in Edgard. There will be no service July 4, and the service ends July 20.

Parents are welcome to join their children, but adults have to purchase meals at cost each time. Those with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information should contact the responsible Agency or USDA’s TARGET Center at 202-720-2600 or 800-877-8339.
