Michel: Turn your worries over with prayer

My granddaughter Adeline has a favorite pair of boots – furry inside, leopard print suede exterior. Because of their frequent use, one ripped near the toe.

“Lolli, can you fix this?” she asked.

“Sure,” I said, “but first you have to give me the boot.”

She reluctantly handed me the boot, and a few quick hand-sewn stitches later, the boot was … well, not as good as new, but repaired.

A couple of days later, she handed me the boot said, “There’s another hole. Can you please fix it?”

She got the message. When she has a problem, she hands it to the person who can solve it.

I don’t always respond so quickly.

Sometimes I over think the solutions to problems or lose sleep over burdens I carry for people, instead of handing them over to God in prayer.

As I recently wrestled with a situation, I remembered Jesus’ first miracle when He changed water to wine.

I also thought about the guard whose ear was cut off by Peter, but healed with Jesus’ touch.

And I read the story of the little boy who offered his lunch to Jesus. After those five loaves and two fish passed through His hands, over 5,000 people were fed.

The water, the severed ear and the loaves and fish only changed after Jesus intervened.

With renewed faith, I chose to obey Philippians 4:6, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all He has done.”
