LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish Parish President Natalie Robottom and Sheriff Mike Tregre recommend trick-or-treating between 6 and 8:30 p.m. tonight.
Motorists are asked to be mindful of pedestrians and drive with caution through residential neighborhoods.
Additionally, the following safety tips are encouraged for parents and guardians who will be taking children out trick or treating:
- Plan costumes and accessories that are bright, reflective, fit well and are flame resistant
- For greater visibility, add reflective tape or striping to costumes and trick-or-treat bags
- Secure emergency identification (name, address, phone number) discreetly within Halloween attire or on a bracelet
- Plan and review with your children the route and stay in a group
- Use a flashlight, one that can be seen by others
- Only go to homes with a porch light on and remain on well-lit streets
- Never enter a stranger’s home or car for a treat
- Always walk across a street, never run
- Remove any mask that will limit eyesight before crossing a street
- Be cautious of motorists – don’t assume they see you
- No treats are to be eaten until they are thoroughly checked by an adult at home
- Sex Offender homes will be identified with a sign on their front door. Do not trick or treat at a home of a Sex Offender – visit stjohnsherriff.org for list.
- Law enforcement authorities should be notified immediately of any suspicious or unlawful activity.
