RESERVE — A Reserve man who police said confessed to engaging in inappropriate touching with a 3-year-old boy was sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty this month to misdemeanor carnal knowledge of a juvenile, authorities said.

As part of a plea bargain, Rodney Loya, 38, pleaded guilty Oct. 3 and was given credit for all time served from his June 16, 2015 arrest, according to information provided by the St. John the Baptist Parish Clerk of Court’s Office.

Loya was ordered to pay court costs of $169.50, according to the Clerk’s office, and the Court ordered Loya’s fees be deducted from any bond money posted, and that the remaining bond be released back to a local pastor.

According to Sheriff Mike Tregre, St. John Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a LaPlace church June 16, 2015, following a report of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

“The 3-year-old victim told his mother that Rodney Loya exposed himself and made the boy touch him,” Tregre said following the arrest, adding the mother of the victim and Loya went to their church in reference to the incident.

Church officials notified the Sheriff’s Office, Tregre said, adding Loya confessed to investigators.

The incident occurred at Loya’s residence when the victim and his mother were visiting her boyfriend, Tregre said.

Police said Loya and the boyfriend of the victim’s mother lived together.

Loya was arrested and booked with indecent behavior with a juvenile.

At his arrest, police said Loya had been arrested five times in St. John Parish since April 1997, adding he was arrested in 1997 for indecent behavior with a juvenile and molestation of a juvenile.
