RESERVE — The St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District recently teamed up with area churches to collect relief supplies for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Working with the Rev. Devin Mason Sr. and his congregation at New Rescue Mission Baptist Church, the Touching the Hearts of Texas collection drive was able to collect an 18-wheeler full of supplies to be sent to hurricane victims in Texas.
“Working ‘As One,’ we have made a difference in the lives of Texans who have lost so much in this devastating natural disaster,” said Patricia Triche, St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District’s Early Childhood and Kindergarten Director and chairman of the drive for the school district.
“Thanks so much to everyone in St. John the Baptist Parish who donated to this cause.”
On Sept. 2, the school district organized a supply drive at the St. John the Baptist Parish Government Building for members of the community to drop off donations. Donations were also collected at all school sites and at New Rescue Mission Baptist Church in Reserve.
Items collected included cleaning supplies, non-perishable food, water, baby items and school supplies.
