LUTCHER — CNA Felecia Smith and Accounting Clerk Robin Poirrier were recently named 2017 Employees of the Quarter at St. James Parish Hospital.

Both were nominated by fellow staff and chosen by the Executive Leadership Team for their dedication to the hospital.

Smith has worked at St. James Parish Hospital for 11 years and was nominated by Andrea Walden, RN, and Robin Labranche, LPN.

“Ms. Felecia is one of a kind,” Walden said. “She is hardworking and dedicated to excellent patient care. She is always smiling and brings a positive and happy vibe to every shift she works. The patients love her, as do the staff.”

Labranche said Smith enters every shift with a big smile, infectious laugh and positive attitude.

“You can often hear her beautiful voice singing as she soothes a confused patient while providing top-notch patient care,” Labranche said. “She treats each patient as if they are a member of her family — with love and respect.”

Smith says she views her work as a calling or ministry.

“I am very passionate about what I do,” she said. “I enjoy taking care of people, especially elderly people. I worked at Riverlands for 18 years and also did home health and private sitting. I enjoy working with my coworkers and staff here at St. James Parish Hospital. I feel blessed for the time I have been here. I would like to thank Andrea and Robin for nominating me.”

Poirrier has worked at St. James Parish Hospital as an accounting clerk for 32 years. She is a 1982 alumnus of Lutcher High School and graduated with an associate’s degree from Nicholls State University in 1984.

Poirrier was nominated by Erin Becnel, controller, who lauded her as very dedicated.

“Over her 30 plus years at our hospital, she has picked up so much knowledge and expertise and she very willingly shares it,” Poirrier said.

“She recently demonstrated her commitment while preparing to take medical leave. She bent over backwards to ensure her absence didn’t disrupt the department. Robin is dedicated, loyal, hard-working and kind. She genuinely cares about her co-workers and our patients.”

Poirrier said she often thinks of the hospital motto — large enough to serve, small enough to care.

“These words surely explain what this organization truly is,” she said. “I am so proud to work with such caring people. Thank you to my coworkers for appreciating me!”
