Keller: Faith overpowers fear’s impact

God knew that people would have a problem with faith, because He encourages us that if we have faith as small as a grain of mustard seed, nothing would be impossible in our lives.

I don’t know many people who have faith, unwavering.

We talk about God, go to church, believe in Heaven and Hell, but when trials come, we allow fear to control our thoughts. Faith and fear are completely opposite.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It brings peace, unlike fear, which causes confusion.

Fear, unlike faith, is an unpleasant emotion dreading what dangers lie ahead that will disrupt the peace we have with faith.

One man at an early morning Bible-sharing meeting said, “The word, FEAR, stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. The bottom line is we have to make a decision.

Is God real?

If we believe His Word, we know He is a positive God. People with faith are positive people who are envied by negative-thinking people who choose to be in bondage to the spirit of fear.

People with faith have a settled belief in a Heaven after death. People living in fear aren’t sure about life after death and are tormented.

God’s Word assures us that it’s impossible for faith and fear to exist in a person’s life at the same time. It’s a choice we have to make.

Faith is not faith until you’re tested.

To maintain faith we have to allow it to grow.

It’s important to place a high value on good thinking.

Philippians 4:8 tells us how to focus and live by the following spiritual principle: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.”

Faith or fear! It’s a personal decision. It’s up to you.
