(Update: reopened) 18-wheeler spills contents near U.S 51 & Airline Highway

LAPLACE — The right eastbound lane of Airline Highway near Becnel Plaza/Hwy 51 in LaPlace has reopened after it was closed mid-day due to a spill on the roadway. The product involved in the spill was non-hazardous.

LAPLACE — The St. John the Baptist Parish Emergency Operations Center, Fire Department and Louisiana State Police are responding to a spill from an 18 wheeler near U.S. 51 and Airline Highway in LaPlace.
At this time, the right lane of Airline Highway eastbound is closed near Becnel Plaza for less than a quarter mile while crews respond and investigate.
The public is not advised to take any protective measures at this time however motorists should drive with caution near the scene and avoid the area if possible.
