Fight cancer with great deals at Perry’s Posse’s Huge Garage Sale May 19-21

GARYVILLE — Joan Lebouef was leery about the item that had just been dropped off at the Garyville Gym this week.

“You got a bad back? We’ve got a brand new inversion board,” Lebouef said. “We’re all afraid to try it though.”

Still, Lebouef was happy to have it.

The piece of therapeutic equipment was one of the many items that have been donated to Perry’s Posse for the group’s third annual garage sale.

The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 19-21 at the Garyville Gym on Church Street.

Volunteers will be serving jambalaya Saturday and pulled pork sandwiches on Sunday.

Sunday also will be a half-price day for all items.

Lebouef said there will be something for everyone, including furniture, toys, exercise equipment, dishes, drinkware, seasonal décor, clothing and more.

“We’ve got tons of stuff,” Lebouef said. “I think this is the most we’ve ever had. We’ve got stuff never used, still in the boxes. People really cleaned out their houses for us this time. We even had people donate tables for us to use because we ran out of room.”

All proceeds will go to Perry’s Posse, a group founded three years ago following the death of Lawrence “Perry” Levet.

Before his death from cancer, Levet urged his aunt, founding member Tanya Roccaforte, to help others in the community the way he and his family had been helped.

Since then, Perry’s Posse has helped more than 300 cancer patients with money for expenses, as well as sent items of encouragement. Patients receive extra gifts at Christmas, Easter and on their birthdays.

Lebouef, who also is a cancer survivor, said their roster includes roughly 50 patients.

“We just got five new ones last week,” she said.

The garage sale, which brought in more than $6,000 last year, is the group’s major fundraiser.

Perry’s Posse also is holding a raffle with a first prize of two tickets to all 2017 LSU home games. Second prize is a vintage bench.

Tickets are $10 and are available from any Perry’s Posse member.

Those interested in donating to the cause can mail Perry’s Posse at P.O. Box 2053, Garyville, La., 70051 or call Lebouef at 504-452-6547 to learn more or set up an in-person meeting with Perry’s Posse members.

Anyone wishing to send information on a patient is asked to get their contact information, mailing address, type of cancer and birthday.
