LAPLACE — A flash flood watch has been issued for St. John the Baptist Parish through 7 a.m. Thursday.

Severe thunderstorms could impact the Parish, beginning this afternoon through overnight as low-pressure systems move through the state.

The main threats associated with the severe storms will be strong winds, large hail and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.

In addition, rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts are possible. As a result of already saturated grounds, the threat of heavy rainfall may result in flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Avoid placing debris in ditches, drainage canals and on the side of the road that may impede drainage or become projectiles and assist the Parish in cleaning out storm drains and catch basins in front of homes and businesses during breaks in the rainfall.

Residents should use caution when driving in flooded roadways.

Public Works and Utilities crews will be on hand during the rain event; however, residents should report any issues or concerns during to 9-1-1.
