Chamber of Commerce addresses legislative team

LAPLACE — Given two years of increased taxes on businesses, it was important for local Chamber members to express how those taxes are impacting their businesses and employees.
That was part of the message, according to Tommy Faucheux, delivered this week directly to the state representatives and senators representing the River Parishes.
Faucheux serves as a River Region Chamber of Commerce policy member and meeting facilitator.
“It was a very good discussion that provided Chamber members with a great opportunity to express concerns and hear from the legislators,” Faucheux said.
Monday’s meeting included Sen. Gary Smith, Rep. Greg Miller, Rep. Randall Gaines and Rep. Clay Schexnayder, along with Chamber members.
According to a Chamber release, the meeting provided a “casual, intimate setting” to exchange ideas and discuss issues prior to the upcoming 2017 Louisiana legislative session.
Items of interest included the state budget, increased taxes on businesses and River Region infrastructure needs.
“The meeting provides a great perspective of what to expect during the session and allows us an invaluable opportunity to share our concerns,” Faucheux said.
