St. John the Baptist Parish President Natalie Robottom, along with other parish officials, engineers and members of the construction crew, cut the ribbon on the new Fairway Bridge in LaPlace Thursday morning.

The bridge, which had fallen into disrepair, was replaced during a $540,621 project funded through the 2014 bond issue.

Improvements, which took approximately six months, included the installation of new concrete pilings, shoring up of the banks and the replacement of the old bridge with a new one with a walkway and handrails.

The bridge reopened to traffic Jan. 19.
