LAPLACE — Two homes were severely damaged during an overnight fire that ripped through Warwick Street in LaPlace over the weekend.
Authorities said no injuries were reported following the Saturday blaze that started at approximately 1 a.m.
St. John Parish Office of Fire Services personnel responded to 101 Warwick St. at 1:24 a.m., discovering the location “ fully involved with fire on the second floor,” a response report said.
Five adults were home during the fire, officials said. The fire had also spread next door to 103 Warwick St.
Additional units and mutual aid from the Norco Fire Department responded, as well.
Crews were able to knock down the main fire with master stream devices and the aerial ladder, and authorities said 103 Warwick St. sustained fire damage to the exterior and attic area, as well as water damage in the second story bedroom.
101 Warwick St. sustained heavy fire damage throughout the second story and first floor living room, with water damage throughout the rest of the structure.
Authorities said the fire started in the downstairs fireplace wall enclosure and quickly spread to the attic area, adding the house was equipped with smoke detectors that alerted the occupants, who were able to evacuate with no injuries.
