Keller: You need not worry about worrying

A friend of mine recently shared with me that he’s been concerned about his prodigal son for a few years.

Being a Christian, he realizes the solution is to pray, let go and let God solve the problem.

As we discussed his situation, he admitted turning it over is easy to confess but hard to do.

Being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather, I can relate to worrying about a few of my family members.

I should know by now that worry is a waste of time and is one of the most ineffective pastimes we can indulge in.

In Matthew 6:27, Jesus, Himself, asked if worrying can add a single moment to your life?

God’s prescription for worry is better than Prozac or Valium.

He suggests we don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.

When we get to that point, we will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

A few days ago, while looking through some old files, I came across the following.

I thought it would be timely for me, my friend and others who might be wasting time instead of turning it over.

BROKEN DREAMS

As children bring their broken toys

With tears for us to mend,

I brought my broken dreams to God

Because He was my Friend.

But then instead of leaving Him

In peace to work alone,

I hung around and tried to help

With ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried,

“How can You be so slow?”

“My child,” He said, “What could I do?

You never did let go.”
