LAPLACE — A veteran St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy has been fired in the aftermath of his arrest for theft, authorities said.
Sheriff’s Office deputies booked Keith Carroll, 32, of LaPlace Sunday for theft under $750 and malfeasance in office.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said a resident’s complaint led to an Internal Affairs investigation, which revealed Carroll used a Sheriff’s Office fuel card to fuel a non-department vehicle.
Authorities said Carroll was employed with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office for seven years and assigned to the Criminal Patrol Division.
He was terminated Jan. 13.
Carroll has been released on a personal surety bond.
