LAPLACE — A former LaPlace resident wanted for terrorizing was arrested without incident last week after making threats of a “killing spree” earlier this month, authorities said.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said Angela Perkins, 54, posted a social media threat Dec. 3 on the St. John Talk Facebook page that read, “Thinking about going on a killing spree.”
Perkins was arrested Thursday for terrorizing.
“She was first arrested in New Orleans, then transported to St. John (Thursday),” Tregre said, adding she posted bond and was released the next day.
United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force personnel made the arrest.
Tregre said there were no issues with the arrest, adding Perkins went quietly.
Tregre said the profile Perkins used to make the post was her actual Facebook profile.
Tregre said authorities believe the suspect’s frustration with family members motivated the post.
Authorities were first made aware of the post after tips came in from the public.
“I appreciate all of the citizens making me aware of the post through social media,” Tregre said. “About 30 people sent me a screen shot of what Perkins put out there. People where very concerned and rightly so. Based on that post on social media, a warrant was issued and she was located and has a court date pending.”
According to the Sheriff, the United States Fugitive Task Force was asked for assistance within two days of the initial investigation.
“I actually have a member of St. John Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Task Force,” Tregre said. “It’s a great partnership. Anytime we can’t find somebody, they have more manpower and more resources than we do. They do an excellent job.”
