BOUTTE — A St. Charles Parish man died this week after his vehicle ran off the road near the intersection of Schmill Street and U.S. 90 in Boutte.
Louisiana State Police Troop B spokeswoman Melissa Matey said authorities responded to the fatal crash at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, locating 57-year-old Keith Hotard of Des Allemands, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed Hotard was driving a Ford F-250 west on U.S. 90 near the intersection with Schmill Street when, for unknown reasons, the Ford veered off the road to the right, crossing into a private parking lot.
The Ford struck an unoccupied parked vehicle, continued through the parking lot and struck a power pole.
Emergency responders found Hotard unresponsive and medical aid was rendered. However, Matey said, Hotard was pronounced dead.
Hotard was wearing a seat belt and impairment is not suspected.
Toxicology tests will be performed during an autopsy. Authorities said the investigation should be complete within six to eight weeks.
In a separate investigation, Matey said charges are pending following a fatal wreck that resulted in the death of a St. John the Baptist Parish woman last week.
Joywanne Adams, 39, of LaPlace, was killed Nov. 9 as the result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash that occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on U.S. 51 around Palmetto Drive in LaPlace.
