NORCO — A holiday classic gets a new twist when The River Region Drama Guild presents “Humbug.”
Written by John Wooten, “Humbug” will be performed at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12 at the River Regions Performing Arts and Cultural Center, 15146 River Road in Norco.
All tickets are $5, so the whole family can attend, Guild officials said.
Tickets go on sale beginning Monday through the nights of the performances and are available from any cast member or by contacting 504-201-5000 or shelbi.berthelot@selu.edu.
Limited seating is available, so advanced purchase is recommended.
“Humbug” is more than just a twist on the classic tale, this retelling of the traditional favorite A Christmas Carol is a gender-bent modernization.
Droll work-a-holic Eleanor Scrooge is a ruthlessly ambitious Wall Street executive who tempers her yuletide surliness with an insatiable appetite for power.
She’s hunkered down in her office on a snowy Christmas Eve, determined to finish a corporate-takeover proposal until three unexpected “advisors” provide her with a new appreciation for the “spirit” of season.
A plucky, colorful ensemble helps her along on her holiday journey.
“Humbug is an upbeat and moving adaptation that brings a contemporary flair to Dickens’ Christmas classic,” director Shelbi Berthelot said.
Berthelot, a Junior at Southeastern Louisiana University, is no stranger to RRDG productions, having performed in the “King and I” (2000 and 2010), “Lil’ Abner”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Annie.”
In addition, Berthelot has appeared in the River Region Ballet’s “The Nutcracker.”
The production is sponsored by United Way of St. Charles.
