ESJ hoping to change luck Friday

RESERVE — The East St. John Wildcats (0-7) have had a run of tough luck so far this season.

After being stuck in a rut, the Wildcats are hoping to change their luck Friday when Terrebonne High School (2-5) travels to Reserve for the Cats’ fifth District 7-5A game.

Foster said his teams’ confidence wasn’t going to be boosted just because the Terrebonne Tigers haven’t won any of the last five games they played.

“The thing is we haven’t won any games all season,” ESJ head football coach Alden Foster said. “We just screwed up and that does nothing for the confidence. It doesn’t matter how many games they’ve won or lost.”

Foster said even though the Tigers haven’t been playing well, it doesn’t mean they aren’t a good team.

“They have quality football players,” Foster said. “Their quarterback is really good and they have some linebackers who are good players. But no matter who we play, we have to clean up our mistakes.”

Foster said the Wildcats have been making too many mistakes in every game and that’s what is causing their defeats.

“This week we will be working on playing all four quarters,” Foster said. “We have got to fix our mistakes and keep the game going if we ever want to pull off a win.”

Foster said his team is excited to be playing at home this week.

“We’ve been traveling for our games a lot,” Foster said. “It’ll be nice to not have to travel and not have to hustle and bustle. We’ve been away a lot and it’ll help us to get our defensive game back home.”

Foster said even though the Wildcats will be playing a home game this week, the struggle to pull off a win is still there.

“We have our work cut out for us,” Foster said.

East St. John will host the Terrebonne High School Tigers at 7 p.m. Friday.
